PID test & engineering GmbH in Sand am Main has been focusing on testing components from the automotive and industrial sectors for two decades. The company supports automobile manufacturers and their suppliers in the entire product development process. From development to testing, from the first component tests to final validation and series production.
PID sets high standards for its partners in order to meet the guidelines of DIN EN ISO / IEC 17025 of the German Accreditation Service GmbH (DAkkS). It is a matter of course for the company to offer its customers high quality with simultaneous cost efficiency and the conservation of resources.
For a laboratory expansion in the field of e-mobility, PID was now looking for a supplier to build five high-performance endurance test benches with battery simulators and three complex functional test benches for electric drive test benches.
After tendering and detailed examination of the market participants in Germany, PID test & engineering GmbH decided for Heinzinger electronic GmbH and its battery simulators "ERS-BIC". Heinzinger was able to convince with an overall package consisting of short delivery time, price-performance ratio, quality and recommendation.
The goals of the customer PID:
- Strategic development of the company towards future drive systems for e-mobility
- Expansion of the test facilities for functional testing of electric drives
- Increase of the test capacity for endurance test benches and enlargement of laboratory area
It is now possible to operate up to four test objects (e-drives) connected to one source/sink.
One particular challenge time. Due to the increasing number of customer requests, fast implementation was required, combined with rapid growth, high investment and the development of specialist personnel.
Heinzinger’s solution: Regenerative source/sink systems of the ERS-BIC series with:
- 500 kW composite power
- up to 4 independent DC channels or
- one channel with max. 1200 V / 2400 A in parallel operation
The demanding test requirement of a very fast voltage output was one of the main issues during development . Service technicians and application engineers of Heinzinger electronic GmbH spent several days on site at PID to work out the best solution together with the customer.
Even the problem that the specified temperature range for the cooling liquid of the ERS-BIC did not math with the cooling system from PID could be solved in an uncomplicated way: PID installed appropriate heat exchangers between the overall cooling system and the ERS-BIC units.

The installed power supplies (ERS-BIC) are in continuous operation (24/7) and planned for future projects.
